Switch is an NREN – National Research and Education Network
Rules of conduct – bigger univ pay bigger than the smaller one.
Four business units:
- Network
- Security
- Netservices : protected with one single sign On solution (national wide)
- Internet Domains
Lecture recording:
- Support students (miss classes, exams preparation, flexibility, distance learning, increase spatial)
- Reach a boarder audince (capacity limits, distance)
Goal: record complete lect (audiro, video, slight), minimal publication delay, platform independent view, access protection by AAI, easy production and low post-production effort, presenter uses own laptop and projector of th lecture theater.
PlAY 1.0 :
recording are grouped in Channels, live and on demand streaming of events, synchronization of presenter video and slides, each channel may have be public, restricted or private.
Requirements and how to do:
- Macintosh, internet, assist to syn slides.
- Get a copy of the slides – > convert into JPEG,
- Upload slides
- Download config file for QT broadcaster
- Log into PLAY
- make sure to start rec. in GTB and hit moderate in PLAY at the same time
- As the presenter change slides, fo after her by clicking on the corresponding image in PLAY
- stop both PLAY and QTB
- enter the movie duration in PLAY
- upload rec.

- diff on distribution -> rewritten player (ajax based, use standar HTML, CSS, javascript, transistion are provided between slides, current time / remaining time, solves compatibility use VISTA), added prodution of derived formats (IPOD, Quicktime,FLASH), added RSS feeds for distribution.
